After the success of the first generation, BMW kept almost the same scheme for the second generation of the 1 Series. This compact sedan, recognizable by its long roof and vertical tailgate, remained the only rear-wheel drive in its class.
If the 3 and 5-door sedans remained in the range, the coupes and convertibles became independent and were marketed as Series 2. Among the engines of this generation, which went out of production in 2019, there were the 1600cc petrol and the 1400, 1600, 1800 and 2000 turbodiesel.
